Osvaldo Borsani’s approach blends modernist ideals with industrial precision. This “T 58” conference table, designed for Tecno in the 1950s, highlights his ability to balance form and engineering in a seamless structure.

Design

The table’s boat-shaped top has a sharp yet fluid silhouette. It’s finished in a deep wood veneer arranged in a subtle radial pattern from the center, adding visual depth without overwhelming the shape. Two black enameled steel bases support the length, each constructed from three angled legs resting on small brass wheels. This light industrial detailing contrasts with the heavy top, emphasizing balance and function. The symmetry of the base aligns perfectly with the taper of the top, giving the piece a sense of motion. Designed to accommodate larger gatherings, its proportions remain sleek and efficient.

This model reflects Tecno’s forward-thinking production methods and Borsani’s sharp design language. It captures a moment in postwar Italian design where structure and simplicity worked in sync. The table easily sits eight, probably more depending on the type of chairs.

Condition

The table is in good vintage condition. The veneer shows some signs of wear and small repairs, mainly along the edges, but the finish remains consistent and rich in tone. The base is clean and structurally solid.

Literature

The table is shown in different sizes in the book by Giampiero Bosoni on pages 409-411

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
