Art Deco Furniture Collection

We love our Art Deco section with beautiful furniture like Art Deco sofa's, chairs, buffets, tables, and cabinets. The 1920s and 1930s produced beautiful Art Deco furniture, especially in France, where it was more 'classic'. However, we are also in love with the Amsterdam School and The Hague School designs from this period. Designers like Rene Lalique, Michel Dufet and Josef Hoffmann are well-known for their design in this period. In The Netherlands; Berlage, Piet Kramer and Michel de Klerk are mentioned when we talk about 'Dutch Art Deco'.

Art Deco Furniture

Art Deco is one of our favorite style periods that is ranging from ±1910-1935, although officially the terminology was only established after the Paris 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts.

The elegant designs of this period are probably most recognized from the 'The Great Gatsby' style, that is very popular at the moment. Widely used to decorate interiors of hotels and restaurants. This is a very 'americanized' look on Art Deco and reality is that the interpretation of Art Deco varied widely across France, the USA and e.g. The Netherlands.

France definitely had a more classic view on Art Deco, where in other countries there was a larger switch towards functionality and modernism (e.g. Rietveld and Le Corbusier). In The Netherlands, the 'Amsterdam School' style period is probably the closest match with Art Deco in that period.

Art Deco Lightning

AtKris Studio has some beautiful Art Deco lamps available. The usage of (silvered) bronze, chrome and frosted glass is widely used in this time period for wall-, hanging- and desk lamps.

We are particularly proud of the Schneider desk lamp. It has a thick shade made out of clear frosted moulded-pressed glass with a bronze foot. We can only imagine how great this will look on top of an Art Deco desk or table.

Another great example is our French Art Deco Chandelier from Degue from the 1920s.

The Hague School

Next to the Amsterdam School Style, The Netherlands also had the 'The Hague School' as a style during the Art Deco Period. A bit less well-known, but in our view equally, or sometimes even more interesting than the Amsterdam School style furniture.

The Hague School is referring to a group of designer who mostly worked in the area of The Hague and focused on architecture, interior and furniture design. Many people in the 1920s and 1930s found the designs very modern. Functionality is considered more important for the designers of 'The Hague School' rather than the shape. The designs are minimalistic, clean and linear and mainly wood like oak or elm is used.

The most important designers of this movement are Cor Alons, Frits Spanjaar, Cornelis van der Sluys, Hendrik Wouda and Willem Penaat. We feature an amazing early chair by Hendrik Wouda that is a great piece for this style period.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
