Louis Kalff was responsible for the aesthetic quality of Philips designs for four decades. As an architect employed by the illustrious Dutch electronics company, he has designed countless lamps. He was also the mastermind behind the Evoluon building with its characteristic UFO shape.
Design
This specific model bears the name Diplomat and is more stylish and slender than most space-age creations. That is the genre to which this table lamp certainly belongs. Z-shaped actually does not honor the design of this object. It is put together more ingeniously and with a precise sense of proportion.
The cylindrical rear leg, together with the sleek brass front leg, forms a solid base. These are connected to each other by a brass rectangular connecting piece that is at an angle of thirty degrees. A long brass stem reaches slopes upwards to the shade slopes under an angle of sixty degrees. The patina with which the brass is imbued is truly eye-catching.
What of course should not be lacking in this description is the black-painted aluminum shade with a recess in the middle through which the original Philips silver-cupped lamp protrudes slightly. On top of the shade we see a drop-shaped plate, a cylindrical bolt and a brass button with the Philips logo subtly engraved in between.
Condition
The lamp is in very good condition with only minimal traces of use.
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
Table arrived very well crated, seller made process seamless.
Quality, flexibility, very good communication, very happy with the coffee table I bought.
