Vald Mortensen’s desk for Odense is a refined piece that balances form and function. Rooted in the principles of Scandinavian design, it offers a harmonious blend of practicality and aesthetics. Mortensen's work exemplifies the era’s focus on quality craftsmanship and understated elegance, reflecting a commitment to materials and form that have stood the test of time. This desk, veneered in palissander, speaks to a tradition where furniture was as much about durability as it was about beauty.
Design
Veneered in palissander, the desk displays a rich, textured surface that draws attention to the natural beauty of the wood grain. Designed with simplicity in mind, it reflects the elegant characteristic of Danish mid-century furniture. Mortensen’s craftsmanship ensures the desk stands out without being ostentatious, making it a timeless addition to any space. On the front, three drawers are positioned on each side, providing ample storage. The upper drawers can be locked, adding a layer of practicality to the design. At the rear, a hinged door mirrors the front’s clean lines and can also be locked for secure storage. The legs are subtly tapered and connected by crossbars that add to the stability, while the floating top creates a sense of lightness.
Mortensen’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the desk. The combination of functionality and aesthetic appeal makes it more than just a work surface. This desk reflects an era when furniture was crafted to last.
Condition
This desk is fully restored in our workshop with respect for patina and overall look and feel.
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
Table arrived very well crated, seller made process seamless.
Excellent responsiveness, and with wonderful curatorial chops!
