Federico Merlotti is a rather more obscure figure in mid-century Italian furniture design, recognized for his attention to craftsmanship and structural integrity. Working in post-war Turin, his contributions added to the evolving landscape of Italian design between 1945 and 1965.

Design

This coffee table, crafted from solid mahogany, the table's standout feature is its interlocking square motif, encircling the perimeter of the tabletop. This precise, geometric pattern draws attention to the seamless joinery, highlighting Merlotti’s ability to merge ornament with construction. The polished surface contrasts with the dimensional quality of the border, creating a dynamic interplay of depth and texture. Each leg consists of three slender vertical components bound together by recessed joints, reinforcing the table's structural soundness while maintaining an elegant profile. The combination of intricate detailing and minimalist lines underscores the balance between strength and visual lightness.

Presented at the Flor 61 exhibition within a setting by Augusto Romano, this table captures the essence of the era’s collaborative design ethos. The piece not only reflects Merlotti’s craftsmanship but also the artistic synergy prevalent in Italian design at the time. Its enduring appeal lies in its ability to harmonize bold geometry with refined simplicity.

Condition

Apart from a few minor superficial impurities the table remains in a very good condition.

This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end

I recently bought some amazing Artwork from AtKris Studio online. The whole experience was amazing. The transaction was amazingly efficient. The crating and shipping of the artwork to the United States from the Netherlands could not have gone smoother and the customer service was spot on!!  Krista was amazing and I highly recommend AtKris Studio!
