A rare Berlin daybed, designed by Bruno Mathsson in 1957, captures the essence of Scandinavian modernism. Introduced at the International Building Exhibition in Berlin, this model exemplifies Mathsson’s commitment to both form and function. A striking balance of clean lines and organic curves gives it a timeless presence, making it a sought-after piece in mid-century design.
Design
The frame, crafted from laminated birchwood, showcases Mathsson’s expertise in bending wood. Subtle yet intentional, the slightly elevated headboard adds a refined ergonomic touch. Tapered legs, elegantly formed and joined with precise detailing, create a sense of lightness. A thin mattress rests on the frame, maintaining the sleek aesthetic while providing comfort. The original beige woolen upholstery remains intact, its surface adorned with delicately knotted buttons that enhance the textile’s character.
Designed with both functionality and visual harmony in mind, the Berlin daybed seamlessly integrates into various interiors. The warm tones of the birchwood and the neutral fabric invite versatility, while its sculptural form stands as a statement of design excellence.
Condition
The daybed remains in very good condition. The frame has its original finish, and the upholstery has been professionally cleaned. The interior of the mattress has been renewed, ensuring both durability and comfort.

I recently bought some amazing Artwork from AtKris Studio online. The whole experience was amazing. The transaction was amazingly efficient. The crating and shipping of the artwork to the United States from the Netherlands could not have gone smoother and the customer service was spot on!! Krista was amazing and I highly recommend AtKris Studio!
Excellent responsiveness, and with wonderful curatorial chops!
This bar is amazing. Beautiful and exactly as described. A custom crate (which was a work of art itself) was built in order to ship the piece to the U.S. The bar arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. I will say that take the crate apart was not easy and was a two-person job. But worth it in the end
